

Mr. James Augustus McLary, Sr, age 82 of Acworth, Georgia passed away April 13, 2015. James (known to family and friends as Jim, Chief and Granddaddy) was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Fred and Sadie McLary. He retired from the United States Navy, serving his country during the Korean & Vietnam Wars. He met his future wife, Halcia, in Albany in 1955. After four years in the service, he attended the University of Georgia, studying Veterinary medicine, when he returned to the Naval service. After the service, he retired from Cobb County Schools, after teaching JROTC for 10 years. He has worked at Lowe’s in Woodstock for the past 17 years. He was very active in the church, the American Legion and in his family’s lives. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Halcia McLary; children, Gus (Edith) McLary of Woodstock, Anne (Ricky) Hall of Woodstock, Fran (Jackie) Blackwell of Jasper; grandchildren; Jennifer (Clay) Rushing, Jamie (Jordan) Moss, Corey (Lauren) Hall, Lindsey Hall and great-grandson, Cayden Moss. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 17, 2015 at 9:30am at Bascomb United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 6-8pm at Bascomb UMC. Arrangements are under the direction of Woodstock Funeral Home.
