Jason Edward Olson

Jason Edward Olson, 56, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at his home in Canton, GA. He was the beloved son of Karen and the late George Ross. He is survived by his sisters, Tracie Collins (Joe) and Lindy Schwartz (Jay), and his brother, Chuck Ross (Donna).

Jason was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up in Milpitas and Santa Clara, California, before returning to Georgia in 1985.

Jason took immense joy in his nieces and nephews: Molly and Max Schwartz; Cathleen and Lillian Collins; Jorja Sparks (Michael); and Ginny and Charlie Ross. His family cherished the time they spent with Uncle Jason. He lit up every room with his big, bright personality and always brought plenty of silliness to family gatherings.

Jason was devoted to his dogs, Blossom and Ellie.

Jason graduated from Crestwood High School in 1989. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Georgia State University and later completed his teaching certification.

He earned a second-degree black belt from Joe Corley American Karate and taught karate and kickboxing for 16 years.

Jason was a social studies teacher at Ocoee High School in Ocoee, FL, from 2005 to 2025. He loved his students, often referring to them as “his kids” and “baby birds.” In a recent post, one former student referred to Mr. Olson as “Papa Bird.”

When it was time for the yearbooks to be distributed, the school would be abuzz with anticipation about what Mr. Olson’s picture would be. He took great pleasure in dressing in costumes for his yearbook photos—a chicken, gorilla, and Luchador, to name a few.

Mr. Olson had a significant impact on countless students. Too many to count have said he was their favorite teacher. One former student summed it up perfectly: “You always just had to have a good day after Mr. Olson’s class!”

Jason will be remembered for his big personality, his sense of humor, his love for his family and students, and the joy he brought to the people around him.
