

Jean C. Awtry passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in Woodstock, Georgia, at the age of 95. Born on May 19, 1930, in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of Phillip M. Cook and Katie Timmons.
Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished time with her family. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and found great joy in gardening, boating, and traveling abroad with her beloved husband, James D. Awtry. A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, Jean’s faith was a central part of her life. After raising her children, she began a meaningful career in teaching, where she touched many young lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Awtry, and her daughter, Kimberly Awtry.
Jean is survived by her children, Steven M. Awtry, Cathy Coyle, and Lynne Awtry; her grandson, A.J. Coley; and her great-grandchildren, Cora Lynn Coley and Asher Mark Coley.
A gathering with refreshments will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
