More affectionately known as “Jeannie,” she was born and raised in Clemson, South Carolina. The daughter of the late Dr. Olen and Dorothy Garrison, she graduated from Daniel HS in 1969, and would go on to be a part of the first graduating class of nursing students at Clemson University in 1973. Being her father’s daughter, she would remain a fiercely loyal Clemson Tigers fan, all her life. Jeannie began her career as a neonatal nurse caring for newborns in Charleston, and would later delight in working as a high school biology teacher / librarian at Cherokee Christian School. Above all, her favorite career was as a homemaker, where she found great passion in being a supportive wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother.
Jeannie took joy in singing, reading, and socializing. She was active in the church and led several women’s Bible Studies. She supported her children at home by helping with studies, volunteering with their local swim team, and being a wonderful pie maker. Jeannie always loved traveling with the family, which often led her to playful summers at the beach, or hiking and horseback riding in the Wyoming Mountains.
And though totally a southern girl, she also enjoyed many snowy Christmases in Nebraska.
Jeannie is survived by her loving husband, Kirk Swanson; children, Julia Faye Stancil (Rev. Jody Stancil), Thomas Mark Swanson (Anna Franks) and John Warren Swanson; sisters, Doralynn Garrison Anderson (Robert) and Margaret Garrison Kirby (William); seven grandchildren; and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 24, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home. Jeannie will be laid to rest privately at the Georgia National Cemetery.
