John was born in New York City and spent his childhood with his four brothers and sisters on Long Island. For college, John spent a year at the Merchant Marine Academy and then finished his accounting degree at St. John’s University, New York. After college, John found that his passion was in education. John’s career sent him to Atlanta, Georgia, where he met and married Susan Miller Monroe. They were married for 28 years and raised 4 beautiful children. John and Sue opened their Kids R Kids childcare center 24 years ago and it is still thriving today.
John was a hard-working man who took great pride in being a good husband, loving father and teacher to his children, and a caring business owner. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was always interested in living a healthy life-style. John believed in eating well and “doing a little something”, exercise-wise, every day. He loved being involved in all the children’s sports activities, and often coached their different teams, sometimes at the same time! He was also very happy to sit on the sidelines and just watch them play, not having to be “coach”.
John always loved music and dancing. He had a beautiful singing voice and played guitar. He even sang for his sister’s wedding and afterwards, several of her friends’ weddings. He played in many bands in his youth, and continued to play his acoustic guitar throughout this life. On any given evening you could hear him playing Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young with perfect pitch and rhythm. He was a great dancer, and while as he got older it was mostly at weddings, it was hard to get him off the dance floor.
John loved being outdoors, especially hiking with his family. Some of the family’s favorite vacations were hiking and visiting the national parks out west. John also loved skiing, mountain biking, and running. He made a point to share with his children his love for the outdoors and the importance of being active and adventurous.
John was always very involved in the day-to-day running of his childcare business. John cared about the lives of his staff members and made sure to spend time connecting with them. It gave him great joy to learn all about the children and families who came through his door every day. Through John’s business, he touched countless lives with his humor and genuine caring. John had a positive effect on everyone he met. Families and staff, past to present, have been reaching out these last few weeks to say what a wonderful impact Mr John has had on their lives. His memory will be cherished by his friends, family and children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eleanor McGee Boyle. He is survived by his wife, Susan Merceds Boyle; his children, John Edward Boyle, Connor Joseph Boyle, Colleen Susan Boyle, and Michelle Mercedes Monroe; his siblings, Joseph Boyle and his wife, Jiyoung, Marianne Snow and her husband Alan, Eileen Tabasko and her husband David, and Edward Boyle and his wife Mary.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Woodstock Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2017 with a reception following.
