

John R. Gary, Jr retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from Roslyn Air National Guard Station where he was the station’s Communications Center Specialist. John served proudly and honorably in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard for 40 years. He served as an Honor Guard for deceased veterans in New York and marched in Veteran’s parades.
John and his wife, Shirley, were keen card players and while living in New York would take turns with their friends hosting Friday night poccino games. John and his daughter, Ethe’Ann shared a love for reading Clive Cussler and Iris Johansen mystery action novels. He loved playing basketball and spent time teaching\coaching his children as well as the children in the neighborhood. Living on Long Island, N. Y., he would always take his children and their cousins to at least one Knicks and Harlem Globe Trotters game a year. During his retirement years, he became an avid Lakers fan. He was known for his impeccable fashion sense and sharp wit. John Gary Jr. will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley L. Gary; daughters, Ethe’Ann Gary, Nicole Dillard, Jasmine Gary, Donna Lee; sons, Vincent Green, Glenn Gary, Edmund Gary; Son-in-law Joshua Dillard; grandchildren, Jonathan Gary, Jorge Sosa III, Panther Gary; nieces, Sherilyn Manus, Clarissa Harrison; nephew, Myron (Dino) Allen; and fur baby, Tyler Gary.
The family of John Gary Jr. will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, September 4th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Woodstock Funeral Home.
