Joe was born October 17, 1949, in Attleboro, Massachusetts. In his youth, Joe’s love of building
go-carts and his propensity for cars and engines eventually led his mechanical mind to the world of computers as an adult. He attended Attleboro High School but left before graduation to enlist in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. In 1967, Joe was deployed to Phan Rang, Phu Cat Air Base in South Vietnam for training. The mission was called “Operation Safeside” and his unit, the 821st Combat Support Group served courageously defending the Air Force Base during the height of the Vietnam war from 1967 – 1971. While in the service, Joe continued his education achieving his high school diploma with a GED. He was honorably discharged from the US Armed Services after 4 years of duty.
Now a civilian, Joe began the solitary life as a truck driver for Mayflower, travelling cross-country where he struck up friendships at every port of call and later started his own
business as owner/operator of a 16-wheeler. Those experiences, skills, and contacts while on the road, and Joe’s self-taught computer software language, culminated in a successful career developing software systems for the trucking industry.
Through his many work contacts, Joe lived in several parts of the country: Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, California, Massachusetts. While in Oklahoma, Joe started his
employment with Americold. The company transferred him to Atlanta, GA, where Joe finally settled down for 20 + years. After retirement from Americold, he continued to provide critical support for software management and programming.
Joe was laid to rest on May 1st in a private ceremony at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia, with full military color-guard and in the presence of several family and friends. The family welcomes any of his friends to share a photo, or story of Joe.
Joe and his family kindly ask that you donate to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter 47 at P.O. Box 56, Jasper, GA 30143.
