Kenneth Melvin Harris, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, just days before his 90th birthday. He was born on February 23, 1936, in Fannin County, Georgia. Kenneth lived a life defined by service, hard work, creativity, and deep love for his family.
Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enlisted on March 4, 1960, and served as an Infantryman with Company B, 1st Battle Group, 7th Infantry. During his service he was stationed overseas in Frankfurt, Germany. Kenneth achieved the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4, E-4) and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his honorable and faithful service. After completing his active-duty service, he was honorably discharged on November 6, 1964, and transferred to the United States Army Reserve.
As a young man, Kenneth began working at Dickie Motor Company, where he learned the trade of a mechanic. His love for automobiles stayed with him throughout his life, and he restored many vehicles over the years. After his military service, Kenneth joined Georgia Power as a lineman. Through dedication and hard work, he later became a Safety Engineer with Georgia Power, a position he held until his retirement.
Kenneth had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything that was broken. He loved working with his hands and took great pride in building things. One of his most cherished hobbies was creating beautiful birdhouses inspired by memories of the places where he grew up. Each birdhouse was crafted with incredible care and attention to detail—even including tiny mailboxes with the street addresses of the family members they were made for. He built them for his daughter and grandsons, where they now sit on special shelves in their homes as treasured keepsakes. He also made several for special friends of his beloved wife, Patsy.
Fishing was another great joy in Kenneth’s life, especially the time he spent fishing with his grandsons, Robert and Tyler.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy Beavers Harris; his parents, Floyd Harris and Cara Belle Pope Harris; and his sisters, Marleen Harris Harper (Micky Harper) and Barbara Harris Abernathy.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Harris Griffith (Brian Griffith); his grandsons, Robert B. Griffith (Meg Griffith) and Tyler S. Griffith; his great-grandchildren, Ben Griffith and Maggie Griffith; his brother, Max Harris (Glenda Harris); and his brother-in-law, Terry Abernathy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Jack Kyle, Mr. John Baxter, Mr. Robby Baxter, and Mr. Adam Baxter.
A funeral service will be held on March 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia.
Kenneth will be remembered for his quiet strength, his skillful hands, his service to his country, and the love he had for his family. The things he built—and the memories he created—will continue to be cherished for generations.
