OBITUARY

Larry Stephen Powell

January 17, 1951July 7, 2019

Larry Powell, 68, of Canton, Georgia, left this life to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, on July 7th, 2019. He was surrounded by family in the comfort of his own home.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn of 48 years, daughters Stephanie (Eric) Bridge, Kim (Devin) Leiding, Jennifer (David) Bill, and son Jeremy Powell; brothers Barry Powell and Terry Powell, sisters Sherrie Oliver and KC Woolwine; and grandchildren Justin, Seth, Courtney, Levi, Hannah, Liam, and Kaylee and extended family. Larry was a caring father and husband and brother in Christ to so many who love and miss him. He always thought of others before himself and was always ready to help at a moment's notice to anyone who asked.

Larry was born on January 17, 1951 to Robert Powell and Juanita Powell (O'Neill) in Sacramento, California. He graduated from Sun Prairie High School in Wisconsin in 1969 and joined the Air Force as an Airman in 1970 and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he married his high school sweetheart, Kathy (Miller), on February 2nd, 1971. He left the Air Force as a Sergeant, Second Class in 1974. Larry then went to work for Bell Atlantic and retired from Bell Atlantic/Verizon after many years of dedicated work. The work, however, that held the most meaning to him in his lifetime was preaching the Gospel for the Blue Ridge Church of Christ, in Roanoke, Virginia.

The family will receive visitation starting at 12 PM on Friday, July 12th, 2019 at the Woodstock Funeral Home, located at 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia, 30188. The memorial service will begin at 1 PM.

My heart goes out to all of you today and throughout this difficult time. I will always remember my brother Larry as funny easy going musically talented among other things. I remember him waking us up in the mornings and saying rise and shine. I'm sure Larry is rising and shining now . I will always remember all the good times singing ,playing games, and laughter.I love you all.Rest in peace Larry.

Uncle Larry would always make me giggle when he would wiggle his mustache. Although my most cherished memory, one I looked forward to every Christmas, was when Uncle Larry, Uncle Terry, Uncle Barry, Aunt Sherrie, and mom would sing. These are forever kept close to my heart.
I love and miss you all very much.
Love, Amanda

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all this week and moving forward. Jan & myself are so very sorry for the pain of loss you are all experiencing. Words may help a little, but God will strengthen you all as you draw close to him. He is with you. And He draws even closer in such times as these. May we all put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, obey the gospel, live it as faithfully as we know how, and let God's marvelous Grace save us at the Last Day....Thank you Larry for sharing a piece of your life with us...You were a true friend...looking forward to meeting up with you someday again in heaven, Lord willing...
