Leonard was born to the late Bernard and Helen Meehan on September 23, 1927 in Exeter, Pennsylvania. A resident of Woodstock since 1980, Leonard had previously resided in Tucker, Georgia and also in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock and a recent member of Woodstock Christian Church.
Leonard served as a career Veteran in the United States Marine Corps. He was a WWII Veteran and had served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a highly decorated Jet Engine Mechanic and obtained the Good Conduct Medal (5thAwd), M-1 Rifle MM Badge, 0.38 Revolver Expert Badge and 0.45 Pistol SS Badge amongst his specialized training in Power Plant Central Receiver Systems, Aviation Machinary, Mechanical Drawing, and Military Competence Instruction in Helicopter Operations.
In addition to his 20 year career as a GySgt. In the Marines, Leonard had a second career spanning 18 years at Lockheed Martin. He enjoyed woodworking, Harley trike riding, camping and traveling.
Leonard Bernard Meehan is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Katherine Meehan; parents, Bernard and Helen Meehan; brothers, Gerald Migatulski & Bobby Migatulski; and sister, Joan Galardi. His memory will be cherished by his children, Tom Meehan (Teresa), Linda Ledbetter (Rick) and Ron Meehan (Arlene); 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 11:30 AM in the Reece Memorial Chapel at Woodstock Funeral Home. Leonard will be laid to rest with his wife at the Georgia National Cemetery immediately following the services.
