Born on July 20, 1946, in Sedalia, Missouri, Linda was the daughter of Air Force Lt. Colonel Louie Cecil Elliott Jr. and Nelle Mae Elliott. As part of a military family, she got to experience life in a wide variety of places, reaching as far as Japan when she was a toddler. She loved to tell the story of crossing the street one day when General Douglas MacArthur’s motorcade passed, and the General himself paused to pat her on the head and remark that she was a “cute little girl.”
Linda graduated from Tecumseh High School in New Carlisle, Ohio, in 1964. That same year, she married the love of her life, James Kyle Brown, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Their marriage was a true partnership that lasted 50 years until James’ passing. Eventually, they built their life in Franklin County, Tennessee, where together they raised nine children and helped many others. Linda took special joy in her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
While caring for these nine children and working, Linda pursued a nursing career and earned RN and BS degrees later in life. Her career reflected her compassion and skill, as she worked in labor and delivery, post-surgical care, and home health. She touched countless lives with her professionalism and kindness.
Faith and community were central to Linda’s life. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Belvidere, Tennessee, where she found fellowship and purpose. She was also active in the local chapter of the League of Women Voters. Later, she and her husband moved to the Atlanta area to be closer to her daughters and enjoy the blessings of family.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband James Brown and her son Matthew Brown. She is survived by many who remember her for her warmth, devotion to her family, and the quiet strength that guided her life.
After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, she passed peacefully in her sleep with two of her beloved daughters by her side. Her life was one of love, service, and faith, and she leaves behind a legacy of care and compassion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
