Marie T. Stepp

Marie Touart Stepp of Big Canoe, Ga. passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019. She was born in Mobile, Ala. in 1923 and was the daughter of Eugene and Winifred (Schultz) Touart. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph C. Stepp of Black Mountain, N.C. and is survived by her daughters Rita Van Fleet of Big Canoe and Suellen Stepp of Smyrna, Ga.; granddaughter Laura (Adam) Franklin of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; great-grand-daughter Parker Franklin and Steve Van Fleet.
She was a graduate of Bishop Toolen Catholic High School (Class of 1941) and Providence Hospital School of Nursing (Class of 1944). After graduation, she was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and served stateside during WWII. She was active in her alumnae associations, a founding member of Old Dauphin Way, and a volunteer tour guide at the Mobile Museum of History. In Big Canoe, she was a member of the Wildflower Bunch, Ridgerunners, the Wellness Collaborative and North Georgia Veterans.
Following the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper, Ga., she was interred at the Catholic Cemetery of Mobile. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Big Canoe Animal Rescue or the Wellness Collaborative.
