Martha Smith

Martha Benton Smith, 84, of Matthews, NC, passed away on March 3, 2023. She was born in Guntersville, AL, on January 11,1939 to the late William Nathan and Josie Alma Parker Benton. Martha is preceded by her husband, Edward Barrett Smith.

Martha moved to Atlanta in 1958, where she worked for Southern Airways as a flight attendant. She wed Harry Thomas Davey in 1959 and had 5 children. Martha then began her career with Travel Inc, as a travel agent and retired in 1996. She found love again and married Barrett in 1997.

Martha is survived by her loving children, Gloria (Robert) Leighton of Sumter, SC, Andrea (Christopher) Bloomer of Richmond Hill, GA, Laura Carruthers (David) Little of Visalia, CA, Christina Thomas of Charlotte, NC, Patrick (Trish) Davey of Atlanta, GA, 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, her sister Kate Harrison of Macon, GA and her brother Larry (Michaelene) Benton of Canton, GA.

Services for Martha will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2:30 PM at Christ the King Cathedral in Atlanta, GA. Also, live streaming will be available for any who are unable to attend . Once the live broadcast is finished, a video of the funeral mass will be posted to the site for a few weeks following the service.
