Mary Pat Kutschke

Mary Pat Kutschke, a devoted wife, cherished mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away on September 7, 2024, after a valiant battle with Alzheimers Disease. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by her sons Bob (Wendy) of Woodstock, GA, and Brian (Amy) of Mountain Brook, AL. Four beloved grandchildren: Robert, Madison, Lauren, and Andrew; her siblings Roberta and Doug, both of Dallas, TX; as well as several nieces, nephews, and a wonderful group of extended family and friends.

Born on June 24, 1944, in Ottumwa, IA, Mary Pat entered the world in the midst of WWII to parents Irene and Bob Rogers. She was her fathers pride and joy from the very start, though Bob, stationed in England as a B-17 bombardier, wouldnt receive the joyful news of her birth for nearly a month.

Mary Pat was raised in the Chicago area, where she met the love of her life, James J. Kutschke, during their high school years. Their romance blossomed throughout college, with Mary Pat pursuing a nursing degree at Northwestern University and making weekend trips by bus to visit Jim at Butler University. Their love story culminated in marriage after graduation, and they remained devoted partners for nearly 60 years.

As a registered nurse, Mary Pat touched countless lives with her skill, compassion, and dedication. She rose to the position of Director of Nursing at St. Martins in the Pines Nursing Home in Birmingham, AL, and also contributed significantly to various medical group practices throughout her career.

Though she was an accomplished nurse, Mary Pats true passion was her family. Alongside her husband, Jim, she raised their two sons, Bob and Brian, with unwavering love and support. Her role as 'Mimi' to her grandchildren was one she treasured deeply. She enjoyed spoiling them with love and attention, and she hosted her annual "Camp Mimi" during summer breaks. Mary Pats warmth and generosity made her a special presence in all their lives.

Those who knew Mary Pat will remember her impeccable sense of style and grace. Always dressed to perfection, her hair and makeup flawless and a touch of 'bling' to complete the look, she exuded beauty inside and out. Yet, beyond her radiant appearance, Mary Pat was a woman of deep love, compassion, and strong family values.

Mary Pat is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James J. Kutschke, and her parents, Irene and Bob Rogers.

A service to honor and celebrate Mary Pats life will be held at Saint Stephens Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills on September 15 (2-3pm visitation for family and friends, 3-4pm memorial service). Following the service, a private family burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary Pats name to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, reflecting her lifelong love for animals.
