A much-loved husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, and friend, Matt Tolan, 41, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on November 28th. He is survived by his wife, Lindsay, 2 sons, Liam (13) and Brody (11), his parents, Shawn and Shari, and his sister Melissa with her family, Derek, Levi and Lainey. Matthew was well loved by so many that it is impossible to name all the in-laws, grandparents, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. While Matt loved his family more than anything, he also loved an excel spreadsheet, a difficult Lego set, a jigsaw puzzle, smoking meat, and building computers. Star Wars was his jam. He loved computer gaming, sports, practical jokes, music, history, reading, and researching statistics to determine the best price and quality of every item he ever purchased. Meteorologist Matt studied all the weather models and told you minute by minute via text when the hail and tornados were coming. Matt’s yard was an award-winning Christmas winter wonder land. Chevy Chase had nothing on him. Halloween was a favorite time for him too as evidenced by his costume selections and yard decor.Matt was truly a renaissance man with his science, music, sports, history and literature interests. Matt played the bass, electric and acoustic guitar, the drums and the piano. He dreamed of being Billy Joel. Music was a passion in Matt’s life, and he had a vast appreciation for all types of music. He loved 311, Mastodon, and of course Billy Joel.Matt’s love for sports made him the leader of a Fantasy Football League for 15 years. Matt played tennis as an adult and soccer and hockey as a teen and young adult. He was known for having the most penalty minutes in hockey. Matt, aka “Birdman” to his friends, loved watching sports with them and his family..We will all miss Matt’s satire, sarcasm, and practical jokes. Some of us were very gullible and fell for it every time. When you called Matt on his phone you could rest assured the worst picture you ever made would be your contact picture he would see. There will never be another like him. We are all lucky to have had such a funny, smart, kind, and loving soul in our lives. Matt was easy to love and will be missed everyday. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. You can do so on their website.
