I just found out about Mike's passing today.  I was friends with Mike in High School, we were on the wrestling team together.  I could never beat him even though we were the same weight class.  I lived down the street from him.  I've not seen nor spoken with him for over 25 years.  I send my deepest sympathies to Mr. & Mrs. Hughey and Melissa.  I don't know if Mike was married or had children, but I do hope that he was happy.  It's always shocking to lose a loved one, especially when it is sudden and unexpected as I hear this was.  One thing we learn as we get older is to Live, Love and enjoy life to its fullest while we are here.  I'm very, very sorry to learn of this loss.

Michael was always a joy to see in the hallways of Roswell High School.  I reconnected with him briefly through Facebook and was shocked and saddened to learn of his untimely passing.  But I do believe, with all my heart, that this is just a temporary thing.  We will see him again...on the other side.  Love you friend. (Justine Peters, RHS Class of '83 Roswell)

Michael was my high school love, and I am greatly saddened that his light has gone out of this world.  He is dancing with the angels now, at peace with everything that is.

I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  As a former co-worker we did not get to see eachother often as we were in different locations, but or joys of soccer and music always gave us something to catch up on. I will keep Michael and his family in my prayers through these difficult times.

So what can be said about the loss of a best friend? We knew each other for over 30 years, through some great highs and tremendous lows. He was complex, intelligent, and intensely private. We disagreed frequently, even fought a few times, but never without love and respect. We struggled together over the important things in life: what we loved, cared about, and wanted in our lives, and for that matter, what we wanted in the other’s life. We wasted no effort straining mightily sometimes to move the other in their conviction while realizing that a glacier might be easier to budge. For the last two years I had been trying to get Michael to leave the corporate world and go into teaching – he needed not to love a few people, but a great many, and thousands of students would have benefited from his presence in their lives. It saddens me that this is not to be.
To have had such a friend is a rarity and a blessing – his is a voice that I always carried and I hear him still. For that I am glad as my friend and I continue to wrestle with the future together, though I’ll not deny that I painfully mourn the loss of another 30 years of his great friendship.

We didn't know Michael very well, but enjoyed seeing his smiling face on Sunday mornings at church.  Our hearts go out to his family and to Karyl.  Please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.  Michael will be missed.

I don't know what to say  except we love you all.  It's been many years since Melissa welcomed John and me to the neighborhood.  Where does the time go?  I always remember Michael with a smile on his face.  I guess we all kind of grew up together.

God Bless Mike and all those who loved him. My prayers are with you all. Music and our love of it made Mike's and my path cross. Mike was very active and highly respected in the sharing of live music. His good ear and knowledge he shared with many was greatly appreciated. We all are extremely saddened of his passing. I  was blessed to have spent many nights talking to Mike about music. We shared our dog talk. We talked  about life, jobs, family..... Mike's love for his family  was always part of the talk. I will miss his kindness and friendship. A loss way to soon, he has now gone to his savior. RIP Mike!!

Fran, Harvard & Melissa, So sorry to hear of your loss.  We have lost contact over the years, and unfortunately, through tragedy, maybe our friendships will be renewed. When I read of Michael's death, my first thought was that I hope he and Lee are roller skating and playing in heaven.  I lost Lee on Dec 20, 2008, so I know these two little boys are having so much fun together.  "Lisserlots", looks like you've had tragedy in your life too.  You guys, please call me..# is still same.  Harry has been sick last two years, but amazingly enough, he has survived.  At 80, he looks good.  Unfortunately, can't be with you on Fri., but I'm hoping Harry will go with his caregiver.  Please know I love all of you and hope we can be in touch real soon to recapture the wonderful times we shared.

Melissa, and Family... What a terrible loss to have Michael gone.  I have wonderful memories of him coaching Jay in soccer. He would just about whisper and all those little boys would turn and listen!He also loved to show them the squirrel he kept in a cage in his car!  I will pray for comfort for all your family.

Melissa and family...Years ago a friend of mine lost her daughter who was only nine years old.  I remember how incredibly brave and strong she was during the funeral and knew that I would never be able to be that strong.  Not long after the funeral we had lunch and I told her how much I admired her strength through everything...and I never will forget how she replied.  She said that every person we have within our lives is a gift and blessing from God.  Gifts that are given without warranties or guarantees of lengthy lives. And though her daughter was only nine years old...she had the privilege of knowing, loving and caring for her for those beautiful nine years.  She said she was definitely sad she was gone, but that if God had told her when her daughter was born that she could have her for only nine years, she wouldn't change a thing...for nine years of an incredible blessing is so much better than to have never been blessed at all.

I hope you and your family find peace in the 47-year-blessing that was Michael.

I am so shocked to hear of Mike's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I was Mike's "big brother" at our Sig Ep fraternity house at the College of William and Mary. I will always remember Mike for his kindness and loyalty. I will miss my "little brother".

Words cannot express how sorry I am to hear about Michael. He was a kind soul and I remember when I first moved there back in 1974 you guys were my very first friends! The things Michael and I did to aggravate you was a daily ritual. Michael was a friend and will be missed. Please keep in touch, life IS TOO short! Love you.

Heaven has gained two amazingly strong, gentle loving angels.  I find comfort in knowing Michael and Kevin are together.  I find solace in the fact that we all have two amazing self-less,gentle, soulful guardian angels watching over us. I have to.  The thought of my life without them is too much to bear without finding solace in their peace.   Michael has been my best friend, my confidant, my protector, my grounding force, and my biggest cheerleader my entire life. We had our own language when we were little that only we could understand.  I don't think that ever changed.  We always understood each other, were always at peace when we were together.   He has always held the moon in his fingertips.  Now Michael and my son Kevin are playing soccer in the clouds with Grateful Dead music playing all while smiling down on us all, still protecting, still listening, and still surrounding us with their love that is all encompassing.

Michael's light shines on in heaven. Michael the Angel sounds like a perfect job for him.
