

Mr. George Michael Thompson, 39, of Acworth, Georgia passed away August 5, 2015. Michael was born on May 4, 1976 in East Point, Georgia. He is a graduate of Stockbridge High School. Michael received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia (which he always remained a loyal Georgia Bulldogs fan) and masters’ degrees from Kennesaw State University and Walden University. He enjoyed a career with Georgia State University as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety Research. Michael was a natural leader and beloved by all who worked with him. The most important thing in his life was his children. He coached their soccer teams and was active with his son’s Cub Scout Troop. Michael had many interests and hobbies that included hang gliding, motorcycle riding, playing various instruments, golf, Frisbee golf and was a sports enthusiast. He was also a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church where he taught summer Sunday school. He was preceded in death by his father, George Thompson. Michael leaves behind his beloved children, Samuel, Gabriel, Madison, and their mother-Lorilei Gurr Thompson, mother, Celestine Thompson and her husband, Max Carpenter and sister, Holly Buth and her husband, Scott. Also surviving; maternal grandmother, Velma Lentz, nieces and nephews, Joshua, Tyler, Megan and Daniel Buth, Grant Gurr, Daniel, Sasha, Ashley and McKenzie Bernard. A funeral service will be Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11:00am at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2240 Shallowford Rd, Marietta, Georgia 30066. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and during a reception after the service. Interment will follow the reception at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens, Acworth, GA.
