

Michelle was born January 2, 1976 in Ottumwa, IA, daughter of Don and Cindy (Platt) Schmitt.
She spent her formative years in the Kansas City area and her middle and high school years in Cedar Rapids IA. She graduated from Kennedy High School then attended the University of Iowa where she earned an undergraduate degree in Marketing and International Business. After a shift in career paths, she worked in IT for several years, then returned to the University of Iowa to pursue her MBA in Marketing. After graduation, she moved to Chicago and later to Los Angeles and eventually to Greenville, South Carolina. She had worked in Business Development for companies such as Sears, Marvel and TransUnion.
Michelle was an athlete and avid sports fan. She loved working out in her spare time and enjoyed watching The Chiefs, The Royals and especially her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.
Michelle was a planner and known by her family as the queen of getting a good deal. She loved helping her friends take advantage of good deals as well. Her real passion was travel, having visited every continent except Antarctica. Her favorite place was Paris where she celebrated this past New Year’s Eve and her 50th birthday with family and friends.
She loved her two nephews and one niece and enjoyed spending time with them and attending their sporting activities when possible.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents.
Survivors include her parents; brother, Christopher (Erin) Schmitt; nephews, Davis and Will Schmitt; niece, Ryann Schmitt; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Michelle’s faith in the Lord was steadfast. So, this is not goodbye, it is “till we meet again.”
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 15th of October, 2026 at Woodstock City Church with Jeff Jackson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michelle’s honor to a charity of your choosing.
