Born on October 3, 1952, in Whiteville, North Carolina, Mickey was a man whose warmth, kindness, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone he met. It was often said that he never met a stranger, and those fortunate enough to know him quickly became friends. His welcoming spirit and infectious personality made him beloved by all.
Mickey was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of Northside Christian Church, where he was baptized and faithfully worshiped for many years. His faith guided his life and was evident in the compassion and care he showed to others.
He enjoyed working on projects and fixing things, always eager to lend a helping hand whenever needed. One of his greatest joys was spending time with people. He faithfully visited the VA each week, not for appointments, but simply to spend time with fellow veterans and friends. His heart for others and his desire to bring companionship and encouragement to those around him reflected the kind of man he was.
One of Mickey’s favorite things to do was to spend time outdoors, both on shore and in the water. He loved feeding the birds and ducks and was known to rescue a squirrel or two.
Above all, Mickey loved his family. He shared a devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Kaylene, whom he married in 1970. Together they built a life filled with love, commitment, and cherished memories.
Mickey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther, and Julie Ward, who lovingly raised him, and by his mother, Dorothy Hall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kaylene Ward; his son, Shawn Ward, and wife Cathy; and his sister, Diane Ward. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly and remember him with love.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital in Mickey's honor.
Mickey will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia.
Family and friends wishing to participate in the funeral procession are asked to gather at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia, by 11:30 a.m. The procession will depart promptly at 12:00 p.m.
Though he will be deeply missed, Mickey's legacy of faith, kindness, friendship, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
