Patrick (“Pat”) John Stamsen passed away the evening of October 24, 2025, at Northside Hospital after a courageous six-year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. His loving family surrounded him, and we are all heartbroken by this loss.
Pat was born in Ionia, Michigan, on February 15, 1947, to Paul and Eula Stamsen. He grew up in Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School in 1965. After graduation, he and his best friend, Jim Maynard, enlisted in the United States Air Force. Pat served as a jet engine mechanic and was stationed in England. He served his country proudly and even played football for his Air Force division team. It was during this service that he was regularly exposed to hazardous, carcinogenic materials that would later lead to his lymphoma diagnosis.
Following his military service, Pat eventually relocated to Georgia. Several years later, he met the love of his life, Laurie, and they were married on September 19, 1987. Pat lovingly became a father to Laurie’s daughter, Amy, then 16 years old, and their father-daughter bond was a blessing to all who knew them. Although he had no biological children, Pat was an incredible father to Amy and a proud, devoted grandfather to Spencer and Shelby.
Pat and Laurie shared a deep love for each other and for life’s adventures. They treasured traveling together and made countless beautiful memories over the years. They were fortunate to be able to do all these things as long as he was healthy. Pat built a long and respected career in commercial construction and construction management, earning the admiration of his colleagues and forming lasting friendships throughout his working life.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Laurie; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jes Suggs; his grandson, Spencer Suggs (Colt Oliver); and his granddaughter, Shelby Suggs (Nick Hyde). He also leaves behind their beloved miniature schnauzer, Josie Anne.
He is further survived by his brother, Pete Stamsen (the late Judy), and their children and grandchildren: Mike Bogart and his wife, Shira, and their children, Ely and Liam; Marty Bogart (dec.) and his children, Bryce, Duncan, and Kaci. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Osborne, and her husband, Tom, and their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Anne Stamsen (the late Paul), and their son, Paul Jr. “PJ”, and his wife, Marie, and their daughter, Hannah.
Pat is further survived by the children and grandchildren of his late sister-in-law, Christie Smith: Ben, and his wife, Esther, and their children, Mary Alice and Watson; Matt, and his wife, Shana, and their children, Jeffery, Jackson, and Amelia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Chris “Sonnie” Howard (the late Laura), and their children and grandchildren: Michael Mari; Nick Mari, and his wife, Theresa, and their children, Isabella, Alianá, and Nico. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Kit Howard (the late Becca), and their children and grandchildren: Ashley Nickell, and her husband, Pete, and their children, Ellie and Brooks; Chris Howard, and his wife, Lauren, and their children, Theo and Adeline.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eula Stamsen; his brother, Paul Stamsen; his nephew, Marty Bogart; and his sisters-in-law, Judy Stamsen, Laura Howard, Becca Howard, and Christie Smith.
A visitation will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home, located at 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188, on November 2, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
A memorial service will follow at the same location at 4:00 pm.
