Peggy Jane Williams Kunkel, age 89, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2018.
Peggy was the oldest of three girls and was born to the late Glen Titus Williams and Josefa Helena Cassani Williams. Peggy called Panama City, Panama her home since birth in 1929. In 1952, she fell in love at first sight with a young U.S. Army soldier in a local officer’s club. The two hit things off and the rest was history. Peggy had seven beautiful children and truly thrived in being a dedicated wife and mother to her family. She was a great cook, remained active in all of the children’s sports activities such as baseball and swimming, served as a leader for the children’s girl and cub scouts and kept her family on the path to righteousness through baptism, confirmation and keeping them active in their church as acolites. She was sweet and kind and at the same time could be strict when necessary – she cared enough about her family to take the time to show them what it was to be a good person.
Peggy was an extremely talented artist and enjoyed decorating cakes for special occasions. She was well respected and was very intelligent. Her first language growing up in Panama was Spanish, but she not only spoke the English language beautifully, but she was able to master sentence structure, conjugation and was every English teacher’s dream student.
Peggy was considered to be a diamond in the rough as she had so much potential to shine. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and was loved by all who met her.
Peggy Jane Williams Kunkel is preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Josefa Williams, and her husband of 66 years, Corporal Richard James Kunkel, and many beloved in laws. Her memory will be cherished by her children, James R. Kunkel (Brenda E.) of Tampa, Florida, Fredrick “Fred” Kunkel (Donna) of Panama, Jane Lauglaug of Woodstock, Janis Doubeck (Rick) of Panama, Margaret Roland of Woodstock, Kirk Kunkel (Charo) of Panama and Laura Brook (Darrel) of Cartersville, Georgia; sisters, Bessie Johnson and Sadie Turlington (Henry); 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home with a service to follow in the Reece Memorial Chapel. Peggy will be laid to rest with her husband at Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton, Georgia.
