

Raised across several towns in Alabama as the son of an itinerant Methodist pastor, he developed a strong foundation of faith and service, which would guide him throughout the rest of his life.
In 1957 , he graduated from Birmingham-Southern College and soon after, he met the love of his life Elaine Fairley. In the summer of 1966, he married Elaine, beginning a devoted marriage that would span an amazing 60 years.
He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Professionally, he worked in broadcast television before spending a long and respected career as an underwriter in the insurance industry.
While living in Tucker, GA, he and Elaine raised their two sons into and through their college years. In 2006, they moved to Woodstock, Georgia, where he spent the remainder of his life. In every community he called home, Richard was actively involved in his local Methodist church, serving faithfully in many capacities. He was also a dedicated volunteer in local schools, winning several awards for dedication, and faithfully served for many years in Kairos Prison Ministry, reflecting his deep commitment to sharing God’s love with others.
Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife (Elaine), his two sons Chris (Heather) and Tim (Meghan), his sister Dianne Bowen, his niece (Michelle Bowen), his nephew Mark Bowen, and his cherished grandchildren Emily, Joshua, Noah, and Owen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
His life was a testament to steadfast faith, quiet service, and enduring love for his family and his Lord. He will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.
