

Richard was born on November 6, 1936, in Corning, New York, and was the first son of the late Robert Sly Cole and Norma Palmer Cole.
Richard, who as a young man achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Hobart College in Geneva, NY, in 1958. In 1959, Richard married the late Carole Howard, and the two were married for 61 years when Carole died in 2021.
Following his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964, Richard began a successful career in the paper manufacturing industry, working for a variety of companies in Atlanta, GA, Gatineau, Quebec, Claremont, NH, and Port Huron, MI. He began his career as a salesman and retired as Vice President of Sales in 2001, when he and Carole retired to Murrells Inlet, SC, where he lived until moving to Georgia in 2023.
He loved gardening, travel that took Carole and him around the world, playing golf, playing bridge, fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by: brother Robert Cole and his wife, JoAnn; son Christopher Cole and his wife, Leigh; son Jeffrey Cole and his wife, Audrey; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nephews; and three nieces.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date. Woodstock Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
