

Richard Farrell, age 80, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017, at his home in Woodstock, Georgia, after a long illness. Richard was born on April 23, 1937 in New Haven, Connecticut to the late John and Lucy Farrell, the youngest of their 6 children. He attended St. Lawrence Elementary School and followed with Notre Dame High School. His college years were spent in St. Petersburg, Florida. Rick fought for our country in the Korean War while he was in the Air Force. Later in life, he worked as a Regional Sales Manager with Bell & Howell Corp & Division Manager with Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Rick met the love of his life, Elizabeth, in Florida in 1966 and two years later, they married. Within the next few years, they had two children and decided to move the family to Connecticut. He grew up in Connecticut and always felt strong ties to the Northeast Connecticut in particular, moving back there to raise their children for the next 20 years.
Rick was a selfless man. Throughout his life, he was always helping others. He was chivalrous and a true gentlemen. His love for his family was immeasurable. In life he enjoyed working around the house, coaching softball, spending quality time with his family and friends, and had a love for animals. He always had cats and dogs with him in his home. He also was a big Yankees fan. Rick enjoyed traveling and discovering new parts of the country and his favorite has always been finding new waterfalls.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Farrell; daughter, Karen Zeitner and Kris (Ed) Caggiani; and grandson, Paul Zeitner. A memorial service in honor of Rick will be held at The Catholic Church of the Transfiguration at eleven o’clock a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
