John Robert (Rob) Scott, Jr., 57, passed away on Tuesday September 27, 2022. Rob was born on April 20, 1965 at the Naval Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii to parents Nancy Kay Glass Scott and John Robert Scott. Early childhood years included family moves from Hawaii to Corpus Christie, Texas and finally to the Atlanta Area in 1968 when his father left the Navy to start his career as a pilot at Delta Airlines.
Rob’s elementary and middle school years were spent at Woodward Academy in College Park and then high school at Marist (1978 - 1983) where he also brought his 6’ 10” height to the basketball and track teams.
Rob attended college at his beloved Sewanee: University of the South (1983 to 1987) where he played basketball in early years, made life-long friends, and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science. Rob frequently visited his sister Kathy while she was at Agnes Scott College, where he made many friends and is remembered for his bright, kind, and fun-loving presence.
He worked for 35 years in CRM and business strategy roles, helping companies engage their customers and make technology choices to streamline operations. His analytical, consultative approach set him apart in the early days and grew with him as the industry evolved.
Rob’s favorite roles, though, were husband to Mary and father to Jack, now 23. He and his family lived happily in Cumming, Georgia through Jack’s graduation from high school, and they recently moved to Woodstock, Georgia. He was never prouder than when he attended Jack’s graduation with honors from University of Georgia last year.
A talented woodworker, baker, and grillmeister who started every day with the NYTimes crossword puzzle (in ink!), Rob was not only the tallest guy in the room but also the engaging one who was warm, generous and funny. We will miss his wit and his smile.
He is predeceased by his mother, Nancy (1981) and his father, John (2007). Rob is survived by his loving wife Mary of 24 years of Woodstock, GA; son Jack of Washington DC; dear sister Kathy (Melanie) of Petaluma, CA; stepmother Susan Scott of Atlanta and her children Holly Reusing (Tom) and Will McClung; and countless friends and extended family.
In lieu of a funeral service, the family invites people to add pictures and messages to his memory board (www.kudoboard.com/boards/EMnOZmKY) and to make donations in Rob’s memory to Sewanee (www.givecampus.com/campaigns/4563/donations/new?a=2823155).
