Bob was born on May 8th, 1952, at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. The son of Mozelle Allday Prescott and stepson of Jack Prescott, a career Air Force Master Sergeant. As the son of a career airman, Bob had the opportunity to live in many different places while growing up including Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Orlando, Florida, and the Philippine Islands. Often referring to himself as a “tumbleweed”, he remembered attending 7 different elementary schools in one year. He credited being part of a military family for his strong allegiance to the military values and his ability to adapt to many new people, new places, new views.
Bob graduated from Elba High School, Elba, Alabama in 1970. He received an associate’s degree from Enterprise State Junior College, Enterprise, Alabama in 1972, where he served as President of the Student Government Association and a competitive member of the tennis team. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sales and Marketing from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1974, and married his college sweetheart, Marcia Camp, on December 29th. Bob and Marcia reached their 50th wedding anniversary this past December.
Bob began his career in the truck/trailer industry as a sales representative for Dorsey Trailers. After several years in the truck/trailer industry, Bob switched to the office products market. He finished his career working for the Georgia Student Finance Commission, supporting the state of Georgia’s student loan program and Hope Scholarship program.
A major college football fan, especially of his alma mater the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, Bob and his wife maintained season tickets and attended many games over the years. He was an avid weight lifter, tennis player, a passionate reader, and often helped coach his daughter’s softball teams –
proudly pointing out he was one of the coaches when Dani’s team won the Parks and Recreation Georgia State Championship for girls 16 and under.
Bobby loved to reminisce and enjoyed telling stories of growing up in the many places he had lived. He felt a real connection to nature and the outdoors by sneaking to the beach while a teenager to watch the sun rise and later in life walking the hiking trails in North Georgia. He also found peace and comfort reading his Bible.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother Mozelle Allday Prescott, his stepfather Jack Prescott, his sister LaNelle Johnson Powell, brother-in-law Jim Powell, and brother-in-law Lamar “Sparky” Reeves. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Marcia Camp Johnson, one daughter Stacie Danielle Johnson, sisters Beth Prescott Ledford (Dave) and Jackie Prescott Collier (Claude), and sister-in-law Allene Camp Reeves. Also survived by nieces, Jennifer Powell Meharg (Andy), Amanda Reeves Young (Ryan), Katherine Collier Thomas (Hunter), Amber Ledford de Ridder (Boudewijn), Elizabeth Collier Moss (Daniel); nephews Jeff Powell (Kelli), Kevin Reeves (Jenny), and Ryan Reeves; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
