

Born on July 18, 1949, Roman James Montgomery was the son of the late Mr. Jackson Andrew Montgomery and the late Mrs. Bertha Lee Chestnut Montgomery of Gable, South Carolina. He graduated from Walker Gamble High School and the Technical Career Institute, where he studied Electronic Circuits and V-7 systems. Roman was a man defined by discipline, strength, compassion, and unwavering faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years, achieving the rank of Specialist Fifth Class (SP5). During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and earned an expert qualification with the M16 rifle.
Following his military service, Roman dedicated 40 years to the United States Postal Service, where he worked as an Electronic Technician. His work ethic, commitment, and reliability left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
A devoted Baptist Christian, Roman’s love for God was evident in his life. He was a true family man, always present, supportive, and ready to lend a helping hand. Known for his warm smile, joyful spirit, and sense of humor, he had a gift for lifting others up and bringing comfort wherever he went. He previously was a member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta and Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Roswell.
Roman found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved singing, enjoyed cruises, and was a passionate sports fan, especially of baseball. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, who meant everything to him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Elsie; his daughters, Jennifer and Clarissa (Christopher); his brothers, Daniel (Winnie) of Moncks Corner, SC, and Milton (Andrea) of Columbia, SC; his sisters, Ethel of Sunbury, OH, Corinthian of Columbia, SC, and Patricia of Hummelstown, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will continue to honor his legacy and love him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond of New York, NY, and Moses (Mary) of Columbia, SC; and his sisters, Mary (Benjamin) of New York, NY, and Catherine (Walter) of Rosedale, NY.
Roman James Montgomery’s legacy of faith, strength, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
