Ronna Kay (Elmore) Young

Ronna was born on April 24, 1943, in Lafayette, IN to Kenneth and Mabel Elmore (Schroeder). After graduating from New Castle Chrysler High School, she completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Ball State University. She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years, spending most of that time teaching first grade in Warren Township (Indianapolis). In 1966, Ronna married John R. Young. Ronna and John settled in Indianapolis, IN and raised 1 child (Mike). Ronna was devoted to her church, St. John Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, IN. Ronna dedicated her life to helping others. Ronna, and John made lifelong friends throughout the community. They enjoyed their log cabin lake house on Prince’s Lake (Indiana) and traveling with family and friends. Ronna was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors. In 2012 Ronna and John relocated to Lillian, AL where they immersed themselves in the community, went on many trips with friends and volunteered extensively at their church, Shepherd by the Bay. Ronna loved visiting and spending time with her son Mike, his wife Lindsey, and her two grandchildren Ella and Ethan. Ronna’s legacy is a wonderfully thoughtful, generous, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, neighbor, and teacher. Beloved, and well respected by all.

Ronna is survived by her loving husband John of Canton, GA, her son Mike (Lindsey) and their children Ella and Ethan. Her sisters Coralee Hagerty of Lafayette, In, Lana Cochrun (Tom) of Cambria, CA.

Ronna is predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Mable Elmore, her brother Jack Elmore, and her sister Charlene Williams. Ronna Kay Young’s memorial service will be at 10 AM on December 7, 2022 at the Woodstock funeral home – 8855 Main St. Woodstock, GA 30188.

Memorial contributions in honor of Ronna Young’s commitment to helping others and teaching the youth may be made to the Carmel Elementary School playground fund.
