

Rosa Iacono, age 90, of Acworth, Georgia formerly of New York passed away July 11, 2010. She is survived by daughter, Rina Pumillo and son, Vincent Pumillo and wife Helen, grandchildren, Michael, Steven and Vanessa, great-grandchildren Justin, Kevin and Anthony. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock, Georgia at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, Father Larry Niese officiating. The entombment will be AT PINELAWN MEMORIAL PARK IN FARMINGDALE, NEW YORK ON SATURDAY, JULY 17, 2010 AT 2:00 PM. Rosa Iacono was a modest woman, quiet and observant in her ways. She was trustworthy and traditional in her approach to her life and in her relationships. She was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew her. She was also a woman who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything she undertook. Realistic about life, she was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
Rosa was born on January 26, 1920 at the family Home,in Pozzallo Scicily, Italy. She was the daughter of Michael and Antonia Scala. Rosa grew up in in the city of Pozzallo.
Rosa was raised with two siblings. She had two younger sisters, Teresa and Mary. Rosa was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. In her spare time she liked to hand embroidery. However, to Rosa, the most fun to be had was simply spending time with her friends.
Always considered a “good” friend to those she knew, Rosa enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. Later in life, she became friends with Giovanna Lorenzo, in Italy Iolanda Russino of Pozzallo, Sicily.
Rosa worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Rosa was blessed with three children., Vincent, Michael and Rina. Another blessing for Rosa was the gift of Three grandchildren, Michael, Steven and Vanessa.
Fortunately, Rosa enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Rosa worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was homemaker. She was employed for 10 years as a machinist in Garmen Industry.
Rosa found pleasure in sports. Tops on her list were ice skating.
Rosa enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations, she went yearly to Italy, where she stayed 4 to 6 months.
When Rosa’s retirement finally arrived in 1982, she was well prepared. Her new life involved relocating to New York. In retirement, she found new pleasure in cooking. Even in retirement, Rosa continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Rosa was active in her new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered her.
Rosa passed away on July 11, 2010 at Vista Care Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She died from natural causes. She is survived by children Vincent and Rina and grandchildren Michael, Steven, Vanessa and greatgrandchildren, Justin, Kevin and Anthony.
Services were held at St Michael The Archangel Catholic Church. Rosa was laid to rest in Pinelawn Memorial Park, New York.
