

Ruble Leroy “R.L.” Blackwell, age 96, passed away December 8, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. R.L. was born on April 26, 1924 in Stovall, Mississippi to Edna and Puebla Blackwell. He served in the United States Army in World War II, working in Company B 305th Quartermaster Battalion and served in the European Conflict. R.L. was a Baptist by faith. He loved fishing and his grandkids. He was 100% a family man. He worked as a carpenter for 29 years in Fort Walton Beach and owned and worked for Blackwell and Sons Contracting. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sammy Blackwell (Hazel) and Cecil Blackwell(Bernice); sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Johnson (Clarence) and Doris Blackwell; grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Corey Taylor, Alisha Mackenzie Green; son-in-law, Jerry Robison; and nephew, Kenny Blackwell.
R.L. is survived by his sons, Skip Blackwell (Carolyn), Scotty Blackwell, and Rick Blackwell (Terry); daughters, Glenda Robison, Tijuana Blackwell (Jeffrey Greenly), and Lorna Taylor (Darren); mother of his children, Opal Walker; grandchildren, Kelly, Shane, Marty, Melony, Jackie, Kim, Carrie, Tara, Tyler, Ricky Lee, Crystal, and Lorna; 31 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Carolyn, Terry, Dean, June, and Linda.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 from 10:00 -12:00 pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home: masks for the visitation are optional. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main St, Woodstock, GA 30188. A funeral service will be Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 12:00pm in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:00pm at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
