Shannon Ruth DeHart, 23, passed away suddenly Tuesday due to an accidental overdose of methamphetimine, laced with fentanyl. She is the mother of Achilles Tallent Carõn, daughter of Kim Isaac DeHart, Bryan M DeHart and wife Elizabeth Vancil, and brother Garrett DeHart.
She attended Macedonia Elementary School Canton, Georgia, Pathways Academy School for Dyslexia Marietta, Georgia, Saint Francis Middle School Roswell, Georgia, Sunnyside Homeschool (hybrid) Canton, Georgia and Mill Springs Academy, Alpharetta, Georgia. She completed her schooling at Uinta Residential Treatment Center in Wellsville, Utah and Applewood Transition Home in Davis, West Virginia.
Shannon was incredibly artistic in many mediums, smart, funny, headstrong and had a unique sense of style and makeup, that changed on a regular basis. She was truly beautiful on the inside and out.
Shannon, however, had struggles at an early age with a learning/processing diagnosis of dyslexia (along with a high IQ!) and at 18 was officially diagnosed with BPD (borderline personality disorder). She spent many years in and out of programs and treatment centers. In her later years, to cope with her challenges, she began her drug addiction. It was a roller coaster ride between homelessness and treatment centers. Highs and lows. Success and lapses. In the time between sobriety and drugs, she gave birth to her beautiful son. She knew she could not take care of him at that time and lovingly allowed her mama guardianship. She loved him with all her heart and even as much as she did, her mind and drugs controlled her decisions. She was a “beautiful tortured soul”, as her cousin coined. Her biggest enemy was herself.
She truly loved with all her heart. Never met a stranger and made “attachments” wherever she would go. She had a connection with the lost, lonely and needy. Shannon would not want to be remembered as an addict or mentally ill, but would want to help those suffering from the same demons, helplessness, hopelessness, despair AND the feeling of not being ENOUGH. She would also like to be remembered as the mother of her child, her best creation.
Your gift and others, may be given in her memory to the Shannon DeHart Memorial Fund at North Georgia Counseling Centers, Inc. 5100 S Old Peachtree Rd. NGFCC is a 501c3 non-profit corporation and gifts are tax deductible.
