

Shirley Jean Phillips, lovingly known to all as “Nanny,” passed away peacefully at her home in Canton, Georgia on May 17, 2025, at the age of 86.Born on November 5, 1938, in Greenville, Tennessee, Shirley lived a life filled with warmth, creativity, and deep love for her family. She was a woman of quiet strength and many passions—an avid reader, a devoted gardener, and a talented crafter whose hands were always busy bringing beauty into the world around her.
Shirley’s heart beat strongest for her family. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ashley Wilson, Alanna Jenkins, Olivia Ledford, and Brandy Stone. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Destiny Dunagan, Julian Grant V, Felicity Holcomb, Trey Wilson, Rayna McDonald, Ashley Springer, Aiden Jenkens, Aralynn Jenkens, Jacob Stone, Hayley Stone, Jessica Stone, and Teagan Bouchane. She was also blessed to meet and love her great-great-grandchildren: Zeppelin Dunagan, Ezekiel Dunagan, Emerson Holcomb, Wrenley Holcomb, and MaeLani Wilson.
Nanny filled her home with laughter, music, and love. She cherished the songs of Elvis Presley, Alan Jackson, and George Strait—tunes that often played in the background of many cherished family moments. Her nurturing spirit and the joy she took in life will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A viewing service will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Poole Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia. Shirley will later be taken to her final resting place in her beloved Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made directly to Poole Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
