Shurlan Stefan Joseph

When Shurlan was twenty years old, he left Trinidad to move to the United States with a scholarship from Moorehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2009, he graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Policy Studies. In 2010, he met Sandi Burt and on April 7, 2014 they married.

Shurlan was a man of great passion, who put his heart into everything he sought to accomplish. A natural-born leader and mentor, his motivating conversations left others with the same spirit of passion and determination that he himself lived. He always wanted the best out of everyone, and he had a talent –born of love– that pushed those around him ever closer to their true potential. Shurlan gave his all to providing for his family, and remained an amazing father, son, and husband. His generosity defined him; he would always help out when a friend needed. Shurlan was a craftsman of many skills, helping others repair cars, build decks, paint homes, and build any and all manner of things for his loved ones. Shurlan’s work effort extended beyond the home and into his job as a paint charge and scenic artist, where he created magnificent works of art for film and television.

Shurlan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Vernon and Virginia Waldron, Albert Joseph (deceased) and Selena Joseph. He is survived by his parents, Annette Waldron-Joseph, Brian Joseph; wife, Sandi Burt-Joseph; sons, Enzo Joseph and Kameron Burt; daughters, Autumn Ramsey and Zaida Joseph; brothers, Ian Joseph and Stephan Wiltshire; sisters, Joseann (Seon) Peters and Solana Joseph, and many, many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, at 634 West Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30308, on August 1, 2018 at one o’clock in the afternoon.
