

Steve was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on March 3, 1958, preceded in death by his parents William and Maxine Dowler Johnson and his brother Gary and sister-in-law Laura. He received his bachelor’s degree in business and Parks and Recreation from Western Michigan University, his master’s degrees in Adult Education, Special Education and Computer Science from New Mexico University and his PHD in Computer Science Information Technology from Capella University. He taught special education students in New Mexico then was a professor at University of Fairbanks, Bethel, AK; University South of Alaska, Juneau, AK; Economic University of Izmir, Turkey; Associate Professor at University Anchorage of Alaska, Valdez, Ak; and Santa Fe College, Gainesville FL.
Steve was a caring and loving husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, teacher and he will be dearly missed. Along with his loving wife Serap of 21 years, he is survived by his brothers Chris Johnson and wife Anna; David Johnson and wife Jenny; his sister-in-law LuAnn Johnson; nephew William and nieces Lorrie, Melissa, Tina, and Marla along with their families; and second cousins Jill and Jody.
As a teenager Steve earned his Eagle Scout badge and worked on staff at boy scout summer camps. During his college years he worked with Special Olympics in his hometown of Kalamazoo. While in Alaska he became an avid Mariners fan. Steven loved his job as a teacher as well as writing grants for educational systems which allowed him to make a difference in the communities in lived in.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home, Woodstock Georgia on Wednesday July 16, 2025 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Cemetery. All family and friends are invited to attend.
