Sue, or Susie as she was known to family, was born on March 4, 1948 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Alfred Hansen and Cecelia Diener Hansen. Sue and her sister Lois grew up on a farm near the small town of Isaar, Wisconsin. She attended a one-room schoolhouse through eighth grade, eventually graduating from Seymour High School in 1966. Sue worked in many professions over the years, including Product Safety at Kimberly Clark, where she met Steve Knothe. Her longest and most important job was that of mom to her two daughters, Jenny and Katie. Although Sue had lived in Georgia for many years, she never outgrew her Wisconsin roots.
Sue will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She selflessly gave to her family and friends, often in the form of some type of baked good. Her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls were a staple. In her last couple years, she could no longer cook or bake for her loved ones, so her devoted husband often took over.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Cecelia, as well as her sister Lois. It is our sincerest hope that the Hansen family is reunited and at peace.
Sue is survived by her husband of 43 years, Steve Edward Knothe, her daughters Jennifer Sue Greenblat (Brian) and Katherine Marie Erbe (Jacob), and her three biggest blessings, grandsons Ethan James (9), Logan Thomas (4), and Lucas Edward (3). Survivors also include several nieces and nephews, including her sister’s three sons, Steve, Brian, and Darren.
Sue lived her life with a devotion to God that never wavered. Below is a verse from one of her favorite hymns, Children of the Heavenly Father. Sue chose to include this hymn in the services for both her parents, and now we have chosen to include it in her own.
Neither life nor death shall ever
From the Lord His children sever,
Unto them His grace He showeth
And their sorrows all He knoweth
