

Theodore Kenneth Walter, 96, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather departed this life on Friday, October 25th, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the eighth of ten siblings born November 12, 1927, to the late Frederick and Rose Wegman Walter of Altamont, South Dakota. His early life was tending to the family farm along with his siblings in Altamont growing up during the Great Depression.
Ted enlisted in the United States Navy in 1947, and his basic training was completed at Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago, Illinois. One of his stateside tours ended with him at Naval Station Bremerton where he met the love of his life Dolores, as she too was stationed at Bremerton. After a three-month courtship, they were married June 15, 1954, and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary June 15, 2024.
Ted’s military career allowed him to travel the world with duty assignments in Washington State, Italy, Greenland, Iwo Jima, Patrick AFB, Florida, Cape Canaveral Florida, Robins AFB Georgia, Cold Bay Alaska, and his final destination Chanute AFB, Illinois. During his early Naval career, he served one year at sea. In May 1968 he retired from the USAF with the rank of Tech Sgt. He retired after 22 yrs 18 days combined military service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Upon retirement, he returned to Warner Robins, Georgia to raise his family.
After his military service, Ted worked various jobs in Warner Robins before pursuing a career with Tenneco Oil Corporation. He began as a store clerk in Macon, Ga. In 1980, he was promoted to District Manager and moved to Woodstock, Georgia. After 20 years of faithful service, he retired from his second career as a Zone Coordinator from Tenneco and became a “house husband” until his wife retired in 1989. In Ted’s pastime, he enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing pinochle with family, golfing, fishing, camping, listening to polkas, and attending Oktoberfest in Helen. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Preceding him in death are his parents Frederick and Rose Wegman Walter, Brothers Lawrence Walter, and William (Bill) Walter, Sisters Katherine Heimbuck, Julia Parker, Anna (Nettie) Parker, Helen Kenyon, and Gertrude (Gertie) Baer.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Dolores Frieda Walter of Woodstock; his children: Daughter Chris (Larry) Hart of Warner Robins, Sons Billy (Nadine) Walter of Forsyth, Lawrence (Aletha) Walter of Dalton, Freddie (Marie) Walter of Macon, and Gene Walter of Woodstock, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Meyer of Watertown, South Dakota, and Barbara Ries of Canby, Minnesota, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Gene Walter, Lawrence Walter, Larry Hart, Grant Miller, Kenneth Walter and Brett Walter.
A visitation with family and friends will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 pm, at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia. Rosary follows visitation. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 12:00 pm, at Woodstock Funeral Home with Deacon Wayne Topper presiding. Internment will immediately follow service at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnels 2 Towers Foundation in memory of Theodore Walter.
