Ursula Elfriede Rehfeldt Martinides, 91, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026. Being raised in wartime Germany was a time of uncertainty and a struggle for life. When her father was taken prisoner by Russian forces, the family home was abandoned forcing 10-year old Ursula to follow her mother pushing a
carriage that held her infant sister. They fled from the horrors of evil, seeking shelter from harsh winters and raining shells.
In these conditions, the instincts of will, determination and survival formed in Ursula Elfriede Rehfeldt. The family was thrilled when post-war, American soldiers were assigned nearby where her father was engaged to assist their efforts, and a lively bond was formed with a young Richard Dean Martinides who would marry the beautiful red-head.The couple made homes in Pennsylvania, Virginia and ultimately the Atlanta area, raising their beautiful family and enjoying their devotion to Scouting, deep friendships, card games, and boating. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years and survived by her sister Monika Fischer, their four children: Richard Douglas, Antoinette, Jeffrey John, and Mathew Georg. Ursula was also a loving and proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Whether you knew her as Ursula, Uschi, Mom or Omi, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
