William C. Barksdale

William C. Barksdale, age 87, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Bill was born on February 10th, 1936 in Blakely, GA, being the 1st child of William “Dutch” Barksdale and Amelia Hobbs Barksdale.

Bill graduated from Blakely Union High School in 1954, then attended the Naval Academy in 1955. In 1956 he joined the Marine Corp. After 2 years in the Marine Corp, he attended Middle Georgia College and later Georgia Tech. He married Linda Sue Toole on March 31st, 1963. They moved to Cobb County Georgia in 1963 and soon after Bill begin working for AT&T (Western Electric). He retired from AT&T after 32 years. Together, Bill and Sue have 4 children.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and the GT Yellow Jackets. He loved vacationing at the beach and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bill and Sue have been members of Sandy Plains Baptist Church since 1973 where Bill served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and taught youth Sunday School.

His loving wife of almost 60 years, Sue Barksdale, his son, Marc Barksdale (Julie), daughters, Melinda España (JD) and Amy Blalack (Mark), and his son, Cobb Barksdale. Bill has two brothers, Tom Barksdale and Jim Barksdale (Lita). 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive.

His parents, William “Dutch” and Amelia Barksdale. His sister, Beverly Barksdale. His son in law, Lee Blachford. His daughter in law, Kathy Barksdale. His daughter in law, Ashley Barksdale. His grandson, Zach Barksdale.

A visitation for Bill will be held Monday, April 3, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. A funeral service will occur Monday, April 3, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. A committal service will occur Monday, April 3, 2023 from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Cherokee Memorial Park, 120 MEMORIAL DR, CANTON, GA 30114.
