Hoyt was born on October 5, 1944 in Franklin, NC to the late Hoyt and Ada Ross Penland. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. Hoyt enjoyed a career with Lockheed-Martin, retiring as an Energy Coordinator after 39 years. Hoyt enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing softball. His family and friends will miss the way he made them laugh and the delightful pranks he would play. Hoyt was a faithful Christian and a member of the Woodstock Church of Christ.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 14 years, Barbara Penland; son, Todd Penland (Denise); daughter, Tracy Gutierrez (Raul); step-children, Shaun Bowling (Sandy) and Tanya McGill (Michael); grandchildren, Kasey, Gracie, Eric and Jacob; step-grandchildren, Kasey, Kayley, Tara, Kaitlyn and Austin; and great-grandchildren, Aliyah, Araya, Declan and Eastland. Hoyt also leaves behind a loving extended family, nieces, nephews and his beloved church family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 2:30-5:00pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main St, Woodstock, GA 30188. A graveside service will be on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 2:00pm at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, 1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064.
Hoyt was a simple person and would not have wanted flowers sent to his service. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Hoyt’s wishes may be made to the Super Seniors, Woodstock Church of Christ, 219 Rope Mill Rd, Woodstock, GA 30188.
