

Bill was born to the late Earle Granger Thatcher and the late Dorothy Jean Holtmeier Thatcher on January 6, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey. Bill was one of three children and was a graduate of Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.
Bill joined the US Navy following high school and later worked as a school bus driver for the Gwinnett County Board of Education. He was a kind man who the children affectionately nicknamed “Billy Bob.”
In 2011, Bill met Phyllis and the two complimented each other’s lives beautifully. The couple married in 2013 and his family grew to include Phyllis’ children and three grandchildren. Bill and Phyllis enjoyed volunteering together in Kiwanis and also enjoyed traveling, attending Revolution Church and riding their bikes with friends and motorcycle enthusiast groups.
Bill’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Phyllis Thatcher and her children: Kellie Rice, Patrick Schmidt and Peggy Peace; grandchildren, C.J. Rice, Lucy Rice, Mattie Schmidt and Believe N. Peace; brother, Jeff Thatcher and his wife, Jean; sister, Pat Woodford and her husband, Woody; nephew, John Thatcher; nieces, Emma Thatcher, Katie Thatcher and Elizabeth Thatcher Woodford and her children: Charlotte and Katherine; and cousins, Tom Thatcher and his wife, Shylon, and Brad Thatcher and his wife, Laura.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Woodstock Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM in Woodstock’s Reece Memorial Chapel. Bill will be laid to rest privately at the Georgia National Cemetery.
