Goodbye Reece -

During all of those years we worked together and studied for the CPA exam together you were the one person who could keep me grounded in reality, but always with a sense of humor.  I still have your "yellow piece of federal paper" and it still makes me laugh.  Thanks for your friendship and the great example you provided of how to live.

Reece was a co-worker of mine from 1987 to 1992.  He was always such a calm person and often made me laugh.  I was saddened to hear of his passing.

I am very sorry to hear of Reece's passing. He and I worked together for over 20 years and considered him to be a friend as well as a colleague. His family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Reece:  Even though we didn't see each other very often, I did think of you often.  Of course, this is too little too late at this point.  I also think of Auntie often and how I loved to have her cook breakfast. She would put food coloring in the grits when we were kids.  Just one of the many things I remember about being at your house.  At this point, more of the Reece family is with you now than there are left here.  I am sure you have seen them all by now and they have welcomed you with open arms.  Be sure to give Mom, "Aunt Laura" a big hug for me and tell her I miss her everyday.  Please let her know we are all doing well.  You know how she worried.  Also, be sure to give Auntie a hug and kiss for me and tell Mama Reece "Hello" for me as well.  I know she drove you crazy over the years, just like she did all of us.  LOL  
Well, I will see you someday but until then, I'll say good bye for now.

Reece, you were my first boyfriend!  Boy, that was a ways back....but we've remained friends all these years.  I will miss being able to pick up the phone and call you.  I will miss getting together for lunch or dinner from time to time. I know you are in a better place and WALKING around seeing all of your family and friends that have gone on before.  I couldn't wish you back here knowing that you are no longer in pain and are enjoying being out of that chair!

Reece, although I haven't seen you since the mid-70's I always admired the way you carried on in spite of your misfortune.  I've thought of you often over the years and had just inquired about you to a mutual friend two weeks ago.  God bless you and give your family and friends strength at this sad time for them.  Your life was tough and now you can rest in peace with no more burdens.  May you be dancing for joy wherever you are.

For thirty years you were many things to me and my family: you were my husband, Sharon's Dad, Doug's "husband-in-law", and Jackie's "step father once removed".  But most importantly, you were my dear friend.   I cannot imagine holidays without you at my table ever again.  You will not be here to see our daughter get married or to hold our first grandchild, and that saddens me.  But you will be with us in spirit, I know, and I will carry your memory to the next generation with pictures and recollections.  I am grateful to have had you come into my life and I believe I am a better person for having known you.  Thank you for accepting Doug and Jackie into your world with the same acceptance your saintly Mother accepted me.  I find great comfort in knowing that she is reunited with you.  Thank you for forgiving me for my shortcomings and loving me in spite of them.  Thank you for apologizing for your own shortcomings and errors.  Thank you for stepping outside of your own realities to help my girl scouts to learn and grow.  Thank you for having been a constant in Sharon's life.  Your personal strength was nothing less than amazing!  I never knew one single person in my entire life that had as much crap thrown at them as you have, yet you forged on, always "the brave little crippled boy".  I hope I never lose sight of my blessings in life, but if I do, let your spirit be there to remind me to hang on and to face life's challenges with the courage and optimism that you did.  Know that you were loved and cherished and will be missed terribly.  Rest in peace, my dear friend.  Until we meet again....
