Wilson Maxwell Virden, Jr., age 88, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home February 9, 2026.
Born December 6, 1937, to Annie & Wilson Virden Sr., Wilson spent his childhood in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He graduated from Rolling Fork High School and earned a degree in accounting from Mississippi State University. Following graduation, he served honorably in the Naval Reserve.
After graduation, Wilson worked for Greenville Mill where he began a career in the carpet industry and making his home in Greenville, Mississippi. While attending services at First Baptist Church, Wilson met Beddy Ann Westbrook. Beddy Ann says she “loved him immediately” and, apparently, he did too. They were married in 1963 and “lived happily ever after” for 63 years. In 1982, Wilson, Beddy Ann, and their daughters moved to Georgia, where Wilson worked for Mohawk Industries and later retired after more than a decade with Lockheed Martin.
Wilson’s faith was the most important aspect of his life. He loved Jesus and he loved the Church. He humbly worked in many positions in the churches he was a member of including teaching and serving as a deacon. Wilson was a deacon at Johnson Ferry Baptist church where he and Beddy Ann enjoy the fellowship and Bible study with friends in their Sunday School class, AGAPE Connect Group.
Wilson loved his family dearly. Many stories are told and retold about the exploits and adventures of Wis, Jack, and Thad. He loved them both. He was a fierce protector of his daughters, Becky and Karen, and Bruce and Andy knew well the high standards he set. Above all, Wilson loved and protected Beddy Ann until death did them part.
Paw treasured his grandchildren and great grandsons. What fun it has been to search through old and new photos and reminisce about many fond memories. Don’t tell them, but he was very proud of his grandsons-in-law, too.
Wilson is survived by his wife Beddy Ann, daughters, Becky Thompson and Karen (Andy) Daniels, brother, Thad (Nancy), sister-in law, Sharon, grandchildren, Anna (Alex) Sykes, Elizabeth (Cade) Moody, Faith (Parker) Breedlove, and Max Thompson. Paw also is survived by three great grandsons Owen Sykes (4), Pierce Sykes (2), Holt Moody (2), and soon to be George Wilson Moody. Wilson also has many nieces and nephews and “grand-ones,” too.
Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jack (Sharon), and his son-in-law, Bruce Thompson.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2026, from 9:00AM until 11:00AM at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia. The funeral service will begin at 11:00AM with Bro. Ron Hughes officiating. A committal service will be held at a later date at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork, Mississippi.
Memorials may be made to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd., Marietta, Georgia, 30068, the Billy Graham Association (www.billygraham.org), or the charity of your choice.
