Ben was born in Johnstown, PA. From an early age, Ben established himself as a true entrepreneur. At 8 years old, he sold local newspapers, soon working his way to the most sought-after corner of the city. From Johnstown, Ben joined the Army and served in World War II where he earned ribbons and the WWII Victory Medal. After the war, Ben continued his entrepreneurial spirit, moving to Akron, OH to become a highly successful stationery buyer for O’Neil’s department stores.
That passion remained as he moved from stationery to greeting cards. Ben found success in Columbus, OH. He went on to own and operate 8 Hallmark Gold Crown Stores in Central Ohio from 1964-2013. Ben’s true love was his business, one that was shared with family and many employees that would become very dear to him through the years.
Ben not only ran a successful family business, but he was also a truly outstanding individual. Ben was always the first to help you out of a tight spot. His generosity and kindness were incomparable. It’s impossible to count the number of lives Ben impacted through his generosity, whether he was helping with a downpayment, college tuition, or simply helping someone get a fresh start, he was always there. If you ever had the pleasure of knowing Ben, you knew you were in the presence of someone special from the first handshake or hug.
Ben loved life and living, in the off chance he wasn’t working, he could be found on vacation or at his beloved lake house. Many years of memories were made at the lake with family and friends. It was a very special place with many cherished memories.
He loved his family just as much, Husband to Lynne for 29-1/2 years. Father to Scott Livingston (Carol), Kim Sapp (Mike), Jill Lynn and stepfather to Keith Konkoli (Christina) and Amber Konkoli. He was the grandfather of 6, and great grandfather of 8. He will be missed tremendously by all who has had the honor of knowing him.
A celebration of life and military service will be held August 4, 2026 at 10:15am at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville OH.
