Beverly Ann (Beeghly) Avers, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024 at Wesley Glen Retirement Community in Worthington, Ohio. She was born on December 14, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, to late Herbert and Glenna Beeghly. In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Beeghly and Janet McCune; and daughter Christine Avers.
She graduated from Trotwood Madison High School (Dayton) in 1956 and played on the women’s basketball team. She was active in youth programs at the Trotwood Church of the Brethren. Her love of sports led to studying Health and Physical Education (PE) at Manchester College in Indiana for two years before finishing her degree at Bowling State University in Ohio. Her PE degree led her to rewarding work at the YWCA and Euclid High school where she met Paul Avers, her former husband and dear life friend. Together, they raised three daughters in St. Paris, Ohio. After 10 years of staying home, Beverly worked for the Champaign County Board of Education for 19 years where she initiated programs for severely disabled youth and started parent support groups. The great joy of her life was her 3 children and 4 grandchildren who she delighted in games, creative play, and annual vacation adventures that never stopped with age.
Always responding to God’s call, Beverly volunteered at Covenant Lutheran Church in St. Paris, Ohio, organizing the FriendShop and bible studies. Her biggest call, becoming a pastor, led her to study at Dayton Theological Seminary where she completed her Masters of Divinity in 1998. As Pastor Bev, she touched many lives at Catawba, Nation Chapel and Rosewood United Methodist churches as demonstrated in the growing attendance and engagement of multiple generations. After retirement, she led or assisted the bible studies at Powell United Methodist Church and the Riverbend condo association. In her 70s, Beverly received a new call to write three books: Intertwined: Beverly and Barbara in the Womb, Intertwined with Jesus, and I’m Up. While Beverly was devoted to her work, she made time for family and friends and included so many on her daily prayer list, Christmas card list, visit or call list. In her presence, she made all feel loved. She will be missed by so many and yet her influence lives on.
She is survived by her brother Robert (Pat) Beeghly; daughters, Diane (Tod) Linton, and Kathy Moore; and grandchildren. Caitlin (Gregory) Silva, Kristin Saupe, Sean Moore, and Lindsay Moore.
Visitation will be held at Powell United Methodist Church, 825 Olentangy Rd, Powell, Ohio, on Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life service follows at 2 p.m. The burial service will be at Fairview Cemetery, 420 W. National Rd., Englewood, Ohio, on Monday, April 29, at 10a.m..
