Carol graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1961. She married her childhood sweetheart, John Hewitt, on June 22, 1963. Together they grew a family in Columbus before moving to Worthington in 1987. Carol moved to Delaware in 2023 to live with family. Carol retired in 2004 after working 26 years at Huntington Bank. She was an exceptional cook and baker, had a passion of shopping (notably at Christmas and adding to her Sketcher shoe collection), took pleasure in researching the family genealogy, and was rarely seen without her make-up. She enjoyed watching all sports, especially Ohio State Buckeye football and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Her family meant everything to her, especially being with her children and grandchildren. She loved visiting with extended family and being together at the Gallicchio family reunions.
Carol will be remembered for her sassiness, smile, kindness, and love for her family and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Betty (Mathews) and Robert Gallicchio Sr.; husband of 57 years, John Hewitt; brothers James Michael Gallicchio, John Phillip Gallicchio, and James Joseph Gallicchio; son-in-law Michael Weidlich; sisters- and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, and other extended family members.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her son John (Tammy Brown) Hewitt and daughter Jennifer Weidlich; grandsons, Trevor Brown and Braeden Weidlich; brothers Robert Gallicchio and Gary Gallicchio; sisters Emma Martin, Patty Salter, and Ava Gallicchio; sister-in-law’s Connie Gallicchio, Barbara Becker, and Mary Beardsley; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carol fought a brave battle against two cancers for over 5 years. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Yang (Kelly, Angie), Dr. Benson, Dr. Mayerson, and their teams at The James for their care and support.
