Carole Miller, 84, of Worthington, passed away in her sleep on August 6, 2022. She was born on February 13, 1938, in Pittsburgh PA, to the late Francis and Waunita (Dull) Lewis. She lived the majority of her childhood in Gallipolis Ohio. In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Lewis.
Carole will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, J. Dean Miller; children, Jim (Donna) Miller, Melani (Ron) Pottorf, and Matt (Gretchen) Miller; sister, Waunita Fraley. “Mamaw” will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Katie (Shawn) Fosnaugh, Jen Miller, Lucas, Kyle, and Jared Pottorf; great-grandchild, Mara Fosnaugh; and numerous extended family and many friends.
Carole graduated from The Ohio State University in 1958 with a BS degree in Education. She worked in the Columbus Public School system for twenty one years as a teacher and guidance counselor while earning her MA in Counseling Education. In 1989, she returned to OSU and obtained her PhD in Counseling Education thereby becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She continued to assist children and families while working at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and in private practice for over 10 years. She always had a “can do” attitude and her drive and determination was an inspiration for many who met her.
Carole worked hard and played harder. She loved to celebrate “anything” and enjoyed spending time and traveling with her family and friends. She and Dean took each of the grandchildren, individually, on an eighth grade graduation trip of their choice. After retirement, she and Dean traveled in their motorhome and spent winters at the Sunflower Park in Surprise, Arizona. She was passionate about life and work until dementia stole that from her in her final years.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 from 11am until 12pm at All Saints Lutheran Church where a Memorial Service will follow at 12PM. Following the Memorial Service a Celebration of her Life will go until 3pm.
Words cannot express the gratitude the family has for the caregivers, family and friends, who helped with Carole’s dementia care. God bless you and thank you all.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carole’s name may be made to The Alzheimer Association of Central Ohio or Central Ohio Hospice.
