Creida Doreen Lahut, age 95, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Worthington Christian Village. She was born July 5, 1927, in Medina, OH to the late George and Lela Few. Creida is survived by children; Dan (Kandy) Lahut, Joy (Jim) Walko, and Tom (Lisa) Lahut, grandchildren Kim and Kristin Walko, Kate (Harry) Raleigh, Staff Sgt. USAF Bob (Yenili) and Tech Sgt. USAF Tom (Kayla) Lahut, Loni (Mariaisabel) Jaime-Torres, Tiffany Young, Zachary Henderson, and seven great-grandchildren along with a host of other dear family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by, her loving husband Russell J. Lahut, siblings; Dallas, Darryl, and Colin Few, Ladine Reed, and Lolita Barram.
Despite hardships such as losing her father in a farming accident at a young age, Creida grew to be a vivacious young woman with a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She met a young engineer and Navy veteran, Russell Lahut at the Medina Baptist Church where they were married on May 14, 1950.
Creida undertook everything she did with passion, boundless energy, and infectious enthusiasm. Teaching young children and music were two of her greatest joys. Following a stint as a florist, she began working toward her teaching degree after her three children were born, and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1974, along the way becoming an ardent Buckeye football fan.
In her teaching career, Creida positively affected the lives of innumerable children often singing and playing the piano to enrich their experience. During a long career with Westerville City Schools, she received the Jennings Scholar award and was the 1990 Teacher of the Year.
Creida was a tireless volunteer at her church and spent many years singing in the choir, teaching children, leading Bible School, and playing the piano. Even in her last years, she sometimes played the piano for services at Worthington Christian Village.
As a mother, she created a beautiful and loving home for her family, raising her children to love the Lord, value education, and be good citizens. She will be greatly missed by her family and all of her many friends cultivated over the years in any place that she lived.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 6-8PM at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 6699 N High Street, with a funeral service the following day, at 10AM at Karl Road Baptist Church, 5750 Karl Rd, with burial at Sunbury Memorial Park. Please share a memory or send condolences to Crieda’s family.
