

Diane Vizine-Goetz, 68 of Powell, OH passed away in the early morning on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, OH.
Diane was born on April 7, 1957 in Jamestown, NY. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Vizine, and grew up in Jamestown with her sister Sheryl Guzman. In 1983, Diane received her PhD in Library Information Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. As a post-doctoral fellow, Diane began working as a research scientist at nonprofit global library services organization OCLC. There, she conducted research on the application of Library of Congress subject headings to online systems, and the development of classification assistance for libraries.
Additionally, Diane acted as the team lead for multiple record database cataloging projects including Fiction-Finder and Cookbook-Finder. This work was rewarding for Diane as the reach of her projects spanned libraries across the globe. Diane retired from OCLC in 2022 after 41+ years.
Diane married her husband Nicholas Goetz on June 7, 1980 and shared 45 years together. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, spending time with her beloved grandson Logan Morro Prescott, and particularly found joy in spending summer evenings floating in her swimming pool while listening to Ella Fitzgerald with her family and friends.
Diane will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, generosity, perseverance, and inner strength. Diane had a deep sense of faith and is a member of the St. Peter St. Joan of Arc Catholic parish.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mary Vizine. Diane is survived by her husband Nicholas Goetz; two children Zachary Goetz and Emma Goetz (Nathan Prescott); and her sister Sheryl Guzman.
A service will be held at St Joan of Arc on Tuesday, March 10th at 10:30am, with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will not be observed.
