Doris Elaine Larson, aged 98, passed away on October 17, 2024. Doris was born in Brooklyn, New York to James and Marion Bulloch. After a happy childhood and youth surrounded by her extended family and large circle of friends, she married Martin Larson in September 1949. They made their home in Malverne, New York, where their three children were born. Martin’s job as an engineer for Western Electric saw them move to Ohio in 1964, where they settled on Markwood Street in Worthington and raised their family. Doris and Martin were keen supporters of their children’s school activities and could often be seen at track and cross country meets, musicals and plays, field hockey games and drill team events.
Active in the Worthington Presbyterian Church, Doris also became involved in the founding and running of Worthington Meals on Wheels with her friend Penny Leich, which provided hundreds if not thousands of meals to the elderly and ill. She was also a long time (50 years) member of the Worthington Women’s Club and enjoyed her days out with the “Lunch Bunch” until her hearing loss curtailed these activities. Doris and Martin enjoyed travelling; long car trips out west and to the beach in North Carolina with their young family and, in later years, cruises to Hawaii and Alaska, and trips to Europe and England to visit their daughter Wendy.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Martin in 2006, Doris is survived by her loving children Glenn (Sue) Larson, Wendy (Mike) Hurp and Allison Scheuering; grandchildren Chris, Andrew, Karen, David, Susannah, Melissa and Tom; and great-grandchildren Amelia, Naomie and Max. At her request, there will be no funeral; she will be interred in the Worthington Presbyterian Church Columbarium next to Martin. If you wish, donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by her family.
Doris had a rich and full life, surrounded by loving family, wonderful friends and good neighbors. Now it is time for her to rest in eternal peace.
