

Edgar “Ed” L. Erlanger passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Born and raised in Mount Vernon, OH, he was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School. After HS graduation, he served in the Navy for several years. After earning an Honorary Discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at Ashland College and then transferred to The Ohio State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Later he would earn a Master’s Degree in Education also from The Ohio State University. He began his career in education as an Elementary school teacher. He later became an Elementary School Principal in the New Albany School District and then the Hamilton Twp. School District. He was active in The OSU Education Alumni Assoc.
After retiring from education, he co-founded Nich Marketers Veterinary Products Company. He was an avid fan and season-ticket holder of The Ohio State Football Buckeyes. He was also a member of The OSU QB Club. Along with his wife, Evelyn, they started the Ed and Evelyn Erlanger Scholarship Fund to assist elementary education students attending The Ohio State University. He was a member of the E. North Broadway UMC.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents Lothar and Minna Erlanger; his brother Fred Erlanger; sisters Hannelore Jewell, Margo Waddell, and Essie Tarbis; nephew Steve Erlanger, niece Sue Tarbis, and a great nephew.
He is survived by his sons Eric (Christy) and Greg; grandson Tyler, sister-in-law Judy Catobius, nephews John (Hilda) Waddell and Craig (Leanne) Erlanger; nieces Vicki (Bob) Volmer, Linda Dolan, Lana (Tom) Mitchell, Marcha Pittro, Ruth (Tom) Robson, Lisa Tarbis, Lori Marttila, Connie (Ed) DeMarco, Jessica (Caleb Hiner) Catobius, and Kate Jewell. Ed is also survived by several great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and a great-great-great nephew. Ed is also survived by special friends Martha Stuller, Matt Dill, The Haynes (Roberta, Phil, Darla, and Pam), and Beth and Paul Gaukler.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH 43085. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
